The Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 05, Starwberry Kissed is quite possibly the lipstick that I’m most impressed with, I wrote a post about it on day 1 of the 30 days of beauty challenge. (you can check it out here)
Since I like shade 05 so much, I’ve been on the quest to obtain more (all!) of the colours and I’ve recently purchased a few more. This review is about shade 09 Watermelon Slice.
This is a very pinky-coral shade and it’s quite a bright (almost but not quite neon) colour. I was very excited to try this out.
On application, I was quite disappointed at how streaky it applied. Strawberry Kissed applies very smoothly, opaquely and evenly on the first swipe on the lips, but this is very different. It applies patchy, so I had to build it up to get an even coverage.
It dried in the same time that Strawberry Kissed dries, but very unlike Strawberry Kissed, this dries to a very cracked finish. All the lines on my lips (including the ones that I didn’t know I had) are highlighted with this lipstick. In the swatch above, you can see all the lines and there is a very big difference to how Strawberry Kissed finishes — I wonder whether it was because I had to apply more of the product.
On the lips it felt similar to how Strawberry Kissed feels. Although it’s matte, it’s not drying at all — even though the swatch makes my lips appear parched! Its longevity is very similar to Strawberry Kissed and it also only wears when it comes into contact with oils.
Below you can see the full face look of my makeup while wearing Watermelon Slice. The lips don’t look as horrible as the close up picture but I’m still not keen on how this applied and dried.
The final verdict is that it’s a very nice colour, it’s not drying, but I’m quite disappointed that this doesn’t apply as nicely as Strawberry Kissed. I can’t recommend buying this shade.
